Black Panther Breaks New Record
Since debuting a little over 5 weeks ago Black Panther has been breaking records. Yesterday, the blockbuster reached $630 million in earnings domestically. The previous record-holder was The Avengers in 2012 with $623.4 million.
Other Notable Records:
- Black Panther’s 97% on Rotten Tomatoes is the highest score for a live-action comic book-based movie. Previously held by Iron Man and the Dark Knight at 94%.
- First movie to stay in the top spot for 5 weeks in a row this decade. The last time this has been accomplished was Avatar in 2009/2010. The last superhero movie to accomplish this was the first Superman in 1978.
- With a budget of $200 million and domestic opening weekend of $202 million it became the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have it’s domestic opening weekend exceed the production budget.
- According to Twitter, Black Panther is the most-tweeted-about movie ever with more than 35 million tweets
