Guardians actors issue statement in support of James Gunn
A couple weeks ago, Disney/Marvel shocked the world when they announced the firing of writer/director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3.
The firing came after old social media postings from Gunn were unearthed that contained jokes about rape and sexual assault.
Gunn immediately issued an apology for the posts and took responsibility for them. Friends and colleagues have since come to Gunn’s defense, both on camera and on social media. Fans have also begun a campaign to try and get Gunn hired back onto the Disney/Marvel franchise.
For many, Gunn is the heart and soul of two of Marvel’s most popular films. Gunn is open with the fanbase and has routinely shared information about the films with fans through social media, even sharing the first day he sat down to write the script for Guardians 3.
On Monday, the cast of Gunn’s Guardians films issued a joint statement in support of Gunn, co-signing the statement in the hopes that Disney will re-hire him to the franchise.
Here is the statement:
Neither Disney nor Marvel have released any statement saying they would consider re-hiring Gunn, so as of now, this is just wishful thinking on behalf of fans and the actors.
