Hollywood comes knocking for Mr. J
Breaking news out of Gotham City today: Joker actor Jared Leto will be reprising his role as the Clown Prince of Crime in his own solo film.
Variety had the scoop about what little details are known, stating that Warner Brothers is trying to extend their DCEU via the Suicide Squad. It was already reported that director David Ayers (Suicide Squad) would return to the world of the seedy underbelly that is Gotham for a Birds of Prey movie with Margot Robbie at the lead, but new details say that The Joker will have his own solo flick now, too.
Not many details were given to thirsty fans about Leto’s version of the anarchist clown in 2016’s Suicide Squad, but now giving him the spotlight seems like a great choice to add to their roster of upcoming films.
The Joker will remain one of those controversial characters for new actors to keep stepping into. Jack Nicholson had to think of Cesar Romero, Heath Ledger had to think of Nicholson, and I am sure Leto thought of Ledger before dawning the white make up. Many fans dispute whether or not they got a close enough look at Leto in Suicide Squad to even form an opinion, considering he was basically a b-plot player. This opportunity now gives the actor a chance to truly step onto the role and show the DCEU what potential he has to one-day stand toe-to-toe with The Batman.
