Infinity War Extended Cut?
Infinity War was already the longest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but there could be more footage for us on the way.
Collider’s Jon Schnepp recently held a panel with comic writer Jim Starlin, who wrote Infinity Gauntlet and created characters like Thanos and Gamora. Starlin spoke about how Infinity War had a long section about Thanos’ backstory but was cut because the movie was already so long.
From a marketing aspect I think that was a smart move because anything over 2.5 hours is hard to sell to the average viewer. I would have liked to had a bit more backstory for such a vital character, but that’s neither here nor there.
“Before the movie actually came out, they called him and were like ‘Hey, look. We’re sorry to tell you, we have to cut out a lot of the Thanos backstory.'” Schnepp explained. “‘We’re cutting out like thirty minutes of Thanos’ backstory, his origin, and him as a youth and things that he did. We can’t fit all of it into the movie. We already have like a two-and-a-half hour film.”
Starlin went on to talk about the possibility of an extended cut for this 30 minute cut footage.
“It’s completed, and Jim Starlin said he found out that they’re actually going to put it into a special edition of Avengers: Infinity War.”
