James Cameron Blasts MCU
James Cameron spoke to reporters about the sci-do genre while promoting his new docuseries AMC Visionaries: James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction. According to Indiewire, Cameron took this opportunity to say that the Avengers movies have become stale and repetitive.
“I’m hoping we’ll start getting Avenger fatigue here pretty soon,” Cameron said. “Not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!”
While it would be nice to hopefully get a stand-alone female superhero movie in the MCU, I have to disagree with Mr. Cameron. I can watch those “hyper-gonadal males” do death-defying things all day. Also, I hate to tell you James but there is no Avengers fatigue setting in anytime soon! Infinity War that will be released Thursday has more buzz and anticipation than any other movie in recent memory. The pre-sale tickets are smashing records.
This isn’t the first time James Cameron has lashed out at the superhero genre. Cameron made a huge controversial statement about Wonder Woman, calling it a “step back” for a lead female protagonist.
I know he’s just not trying to kill buzz against his competition but it comes quite ironically that he is attacking the need for fresh ideas. Cameron is working on rebooting The Terminator, which will be the sixth movie in the franchise, as well as directing and producing the next four Avatar sequels. I love some of your Work Mr. Cameron but there’s no need to attack others work.
