No Pepper? No Iron Man?
So……is it safe to assume that everyone has their own personal favorite when it comes to the MCU? If you don’t, you might want to sit your ass down and watch a few of their movies. I mean come on, it took us over 10 years to get to this point, so you should be able to knock it all out in a week….at the most… You can either agree with me or not, and quite frankly, I don’t care if you do or not. My personal favorite is the one that started them all…..Iron Man
Now I don’t know about you, but the cable that I pay for doesn’t exactly give me access to all of the Marvel movies that I would like, so I searched for Iron Man and recorded it…..even though I wouldn’t be able to watch it for another 2 days or so, but DAMN…..it was worth it. This might just be some crazy talk or what not, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. We are all entitled to our own opinions so if you don’t like this…….I guess I’m sorry?
During the final battle in Iron Man, Stark asks Pepper to go underneath and overload the Arc Reactor, so that when it explodes, it will kill Obidiah and his suit. Now keep in mind, Stark is fully aware that in doing so, this has can sure as hell kill him too…
It’s actually quite clever when you think about it…… Stark asks Pepper to overload a device that has been with Stark Industries for quite some time, and she executes this plan, Tony’s mini arc reactor (which was never designed for sustained fligh) just so happens to be fully functional after the fact….
Fast forward to Iron Man 3…….
Tony is completely obsessed with designing new suits on a regular basis…..sure it might be because he is actually bored and “everyone needs a hobby,” but he does mention the fact that he has to protect the ONE thing he can’t live without, Ms. Pepper Potts. By the end of the movie, he destroys all of his suits, and has the mini arc reactor removed from his chest entirely……
In the first Iron Man….Pepper overloading the reactor to kill Obidiah is essentially a way of telling Tony that he always had those abilities inside him this entire time (the arc reactor was meant to shut the hippies up, but it has been with them the entire time.) Then in Iron Man 3…..when Tony is stripped of all of his toys and tools, he still finds a way to save Pepper….not because of what he has built in the past, but because he has always had those abilities inside him this entire time. Oh and let’s not forget the fact that he has the chest piece removed at the end of the film……Iron Man and Iron Man 3 both end on the same note: “ I am Iron Man!”
He knew this all along, he just needed the extra push….Pepper makes Stark better, and without her, there might not even be an Iron Man.
