Possible bidding war can determine fate of the MCU
Warning! Avengers: Infinity War spoilers.
Let’s be honest, the post credit scene to Infinity War was cool, and set up 2019’s Captain Marvel fabulously, but could you imagine if Nick Fury had hit his little pager and a giant encircled four appeared instead? Or if a certain merc with a mouth just happened to walk through an Avengers scene. For a while fans were close to being able to think about what the Fantastic Four, or Deadpool, could have looked like in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now Comcast might keep such scenes from ever happening.
Over a month ago, fans clenched when they learned that Comcast wasn’t ready to give up on its potential Fox absorption. The way the cards are laid out now, Disney has already agreed to dole out $52.4 billion, giving “the mouse” all of Fox’s films and TV studio IPs. A report now indicates that Comcast’s choice to outbid Disney with a cash money offer has put that entire agreement in serious peril. Comcast has said to be offering around $60 billion clams for Fox, so now it is up to Disney to make a choice. I mean it’s not like they don’t have more money in a vault somewhere to throw at Fox if they needed.
And they do need it with so many properties siting at Fox, like the X-Men (Which would include Deadpool and the upcoming X-Force) and Fantastic Four. They would finally be able to bring home some of their most beloved characters and throw them into their studio produced flicks to make the cast of characters in them even more explosive than they are now. Imagine Ben Grimm and The Hulk clobbering one another, or an “Avengers vs. X-Men” feature film.
What would you want to see most if Disney were able to bring this deal home? Or do you think Comcast might just outbid Disney and keep these dreams from coming true?
