Rumor: James Gunn To Possibly Direct Suicide Squad Sequel for WB
In not-so-surprising news, The Wrap reports that WB is looking to pick up James Gunn to direct Suicide Squad 2. Disney had previously dropped Gunn from The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise after nearly decades old offensive tweets resurfaced earlier this year.
Seeing as the first Suicide Squad was desperately trying to emulate Guardians style in the first movie, it makes sense that WB would go after the person responsible for introducing the Guardians team to a massive audience. The first Suicide Squad had almost all the right components to make it a fun movie but just dropped the ball in final execution.
Regardless of the critical backlash, Suicide Squad made enough money to warrant a sequel and therefore WB is hoping to get the right person to keep this promising franchise alive for the next few years. WB had previously hired Gavin O’Connor to write and direct the Suicide Squad sequel but if these rumors are true, it looks like we may have Gunn bringing the team of outlaws to the big screen next.
