What is the future of the Disney x Fox deal
It was first announced that Disney was in the midst of buying out Fox back in December 2017 when Disney offered $52.4 billion for an all-stock deal with Fox and have been waiting for the deal to be approved for the last 6 months, but what has recently come to light is that the cable company Comcast is preparing to make a $60 billion all cash bid for Fox.
As we all know Disney owns Marvel who are the geniuses behind the Avengers but Fox currently owns the rights to Deadpool, Xmen/ Wolverine and Fantastic Four which are all hugely successful films in their own right – Deadpool getting a sequel in a few weeks, Xmen/ Wolverine who are currently on their 10th film coming out next year and Fantastic Four who have had 3 films out the latest being a remake of the original film with an all new cast, hence why fans want this deal to happen as a Avengers, Deadpool, Xmen, Fantastic Four crossover would be incredible.
Stan lee has also commented on this deal saying “A truly great piece of news! Now characters such as the X-Men and the Fantastic Four can come home to the place where they belong. It’s vitally important to have the Marvel characters under one roof. And now, as great as they were before, I can’t wait to see the wonders that will unfold!”
Fox’s executive co-chairman Lachlan Murdoch played down the significance of the Comcast bid on the 9th of may in a conference call as well as saying the company was still planning to go ahead with Disney adding that once a regulatory review of the deal is finalised and it clears FCC review they will “request shareholder approval this summer of the merger and creation of the new fox.” With this in mind it does seem unlikely that Fox will suddenly ditch Disney after waiting 6 months trying to get the deal approved.
But until everything is confirmed we will just have to hope and dream.
